Shape-Based Identification of Visual Code Markers

Two-dimensional visual code markers display bit-encoded information about nearby objects. To aid computer vision systems in extracting the bit patterns from images containing one or more markers, we developed a shape-based algorithm for detecting marker locations and orientations in order to identify the markers’ bit patterns. We show that the algorithm can correctly identify all bits for 12 training images. Even in the presence of additional blurring and additive Gaussian noise, the algorithm is still capable of identifying most bits correctly.
